Digi60 Filmmakers’ Festival is seeking candidates who are passionate about film, filmmaking and filmmakers. Reviewing our programming needs, we are looking for passionate folks to join our volunteer Board of Directors to help support our mandate, fundraising, programming and events. The Board of Directors at Digi60 is an active volunteer working board of likeminded volunteers who care about the growth of the Ottawa independent filmmaking and media arts community. We are looking to specifically fill several positions that will help us to future proof our festival and ensure the festival’s longevity in the Ottawa art and culture sphere.

Digi60 is a not-for-profit organization that aims to provide year round programming for independent filmmakers in Ottawa to Create and Learn, Expand their Network, and Multiply their Skills in an accessible, affordable, supportive, and constructive environment where they can access professional development opportunities, and where their artistic abilities will be celebrated.

Digi60 is strongly committed to fostering diversity within our community through our commitment to recruiting diverse members and voices to our Board of Directors. We are looking to specifically fill roles of Board Treasurer, Communications Director and Board Secretary, as well as to fill roles of Directors at Large. If you feel like you have something to contribute to Ottawa’s longest running digital filmmakers’ festival, we want you!

Festival responsibilities of Directors include:

  • Provide 5-10 hours of service per month, and attendance at a minimum of 80% of the monthly meetings.

  • Provide support during the festival, at the festival or event screenings, virtual programming and live events as needed.

  • Participate in committees, planning meetings, and AGM’s; contribute to programming as needed; provide active feedback and contribute to outreach of the Ottawa filmmaking community.

  • Act as an official spokesperson of the Festival as requested or needed in media or at community events, including at with sponsors or at partner events, to build community trust, as needed.

  • Take on additional responsibilities, provide suggestions, and take initiative when needed including supporting Festival staff as needed.

  • Be passionate about promoting and representing independent filmmakers in the Ottawa film industry.

Board responsibilities for all Directors include:

  • Help grow the Digi60’s strategic vision, mandate and future goals as an organization

  • Draft, review, and approve internal policies and procedures, including finance, volunteer management, and Terms of References for committees.

  • Develop the strategic plan for the Festival. Review targets on an annual basis and provides recommendations to maintain fiscal and organizational responsibility.

  • Adhere to the Bylaws of the Festival and review on a regular basis. Revise as needed.

  • Contribute to, review, and/or approve grant applications, budgets and programming.

Specific Roles - Descriptions

Communications Director

Do you have a background in communications and want to contribute to a not-for-profit arts organization empowering emerging filmmakers in the Ottawa area? Digi60 is looking for a Communications Director to help lead the charge in outreach, PR and communications strategies for a small filmmaker focused festival. Candidates should have previous volunteer experience at an arts organization with skills in strategic communication, communication management, as well as verbal and written communication. They should be able to take on tasks and projects as well as actively contribute to the growth of the festival including newsletters, press releases and more. The ideal candidate would have communication management skills and experience with a film festival, arts or not-for-profit organization.

Marketing/Social Media Director

We are looking for a strategically-minded Marketing and/or Social Media Director to be responsible for creating social media plans and timelines for the festival. The Social Media Director will work closely with the Communications Director and other Board Members, and whose responsibilities include attending board and committee meetings to assess the festival’s needs, developing content for social media, and creating a posting schedule. The ideal candidate would have past experience in social media management and knowledge of marketing trends and popular social media tools.

Treasurer

The Treasurer has a designated role in overseeing the financial matters of the board and ensuring other directors are adequately informed of financial related issues to ensure good decision-making. The treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the Festival. The Treasurer should come to the Festival with prior experience on a Board of Directors.

Secretary to the Board

This essential role would be a great opportunity for anyone who wants to dip their foot in our not-for-profit Board. It is a critical role ensuring the smooth operations of the board. The Secretary will ensure that board members are given appropriate notice of meetings and proactively records these meetings by: assuring agendas are prepared on time and distributed to the board members; overseeing the distribution of background information for agenda items to be discussed; preparing the official minutes of the meeting and records motions, discussions, votes, and decisions; preparing and providing the previous meeting’s written minutes to board members before the next meeting and records any changes or corrections; assures documents are up to date; schedules and notifies board members of upcoming meetings; holds members accountable for their tasks.
