DESCRIPTION
The Technical Director is responsible for overseeing and executing all technical aspects of the Digi60 Filmmakers’ Festival, with a primary focus on screenings and presentation quality. This role ensures that the festival runs smoothly from a technical standpoint, including film exhibition, venue coordination, and equipment management.
This is a volunteer board position suited for someone with technical production experience in film, media, or live events — someone who’s passionate about delivering a polished and professional festival experience for both filmmakers and audiences.
As Digi60 continues to grow, this role will work with the Board to shape the Festival's programming as we transition from a working board of directors to a governance board by 2027.
What’s Involved
2-year term on Digi60's Board of Directors
Monthly Board meetings (2 hours max)
Engagement at the Digi60 AGM and Digi60's Strategic Planning meetings
Participation at Digi60's annual planning meeting
10 volunteer hours at key Digi60 events throughout the year such as International Women's Day, Industry Socials or Mixers, in a leadership role (as Host, MC, or Facilitator)
Supporting Digi60's Annual Festival in December as an organizer, speaker, facilitator (3 days)
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee technical execution of all festival screenings, including video/audio playback, projection, and digital file management
Coordinate with screening venues to ensure compatibility of formats, equipment availability, and smooth setup/strike procedures
Manage the intake and organization of film submissions for exhibition (e.g., verifying formats, conversions, cueing)
Create and maintain technical run-of-show documents for screening blocks and live events, including timing, cues, and contingencies
Work with event staff and volunteers during the festival to manage AV setup and provide on-site troubleshooting
Advise on equipment needs and rentals, including projectors, sound systems, computers, and backup solutions
Support the delivery of Digi60’s digital content, such as online screenings or livestreams if applicable
Collaborate with the Festival Producer and Programming Committee to ensure technical plans support the creative vision and audience experience
Suggested Qualifications:
Experience with technical production for film screenings, events, or festivals
Familiarity with video/audio formats, codecs, and playback systems (e.g., DCP, MP4, ProRes, etc.)
Comfort working with projectors, playback software, and basic AV troubleshooting
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to work under pressure and solve problems quickly during live events
Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
