DESCRIPTION
This is an important volunteer role on Digi60's Board of Directors, ideal for a communications professional or creative leader with experience in marketing strategy, digital content, public relations, and team management.
This role leads all external communications for the festival, ensuring a cohesive, inclusive, and impactful public presence across digital platforms, media, and community-facing media.
This role plays a key leadership function in shaping Digi60’s brand voice, audience growth, and community impact.
As Digi60 continues to grow, this role will work with the Board to shape the Festival's programming as we transition from a working board of directors to a governance board by 2027.
What’s Involved
2-year term on Digi60's Board of Directors
Monthly Board meetings (2 hours max)
Engagement at the Digi60 AGM and Digi60's Strategic Planning meetings
Participation at Digi60's annual planning meeting
10 volunteer hours at key Digi60 events throughout the year such as International Women's Day, Industry Socials or Mixers, in a leadership role (as Host, MC, or Facilitator)
Supporting Digi60's Annual Festival in December as an organizer, speaker, facilitator (3 days)
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement a strategic communications plan aligned with the festival’s annual goals, including publicity, social media, newsletters, and audience outreach.
Oversee public relations efforts, including writing and distributing press releases, media engagement, and developing relationships with local media outlets and community influencers.
Manage Digi60’s digital presence, including website content, social media channels, newsletters, and event listings to ensure clear, consistent, and engaging messaging.
Manage a seasonal communications team, including social media coordinators, content creators, and marketing interns as needed.
Collaborate with other board roles, especially:
The Director of Partnerships & Sponsorship to align messaging and support sponsor visibility
The Director of Equity Initiatives to ensure inclusive, bilingual, and accessible content
The Festival Producer (if applicable) or programming team to promote key events and calls for submission
Lead audience development efforts, including strategies to grow attendance, filmmaker participation, and community involvement across Ottawa and beyond.
Support the development of marketing collateral for the Fall Festival and other special events.
Suggested Qualifications:
Experience in communications, marketing, or public relations (non-profit or arts sector experience preferred)
Familiarity with social media management, basic design tools (e.g., Canva), and newsletter platforms (e.g., Mailchimp)
Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and seasonal team members
Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
