5 selected filmmakers will get to participate in a 3 hour masterclass to hone their pitching skills - and will be put to the test on the last day of the festival as they pitch to a live panel of producers

Cents and Sensibility: The Art of the Low-Budget Feature
10:00-12:00 PM ▶ Workshop 📍DARC The Loop

This workshop is for emerging filmmakers ready to turn limited resources into creative freedom. You’ll learn how to reverse-engineer your first feature from story and performance outward - focusing every dollar, every hour, and every ounce of energy on what truly moves an audience.

Forget the numbers. The real currency is passion, collaboration, and purpose.

Limited to 8 participants of the 60-Day Challenge who completed and screened their film at the 2025 festival.

Seasoned Ottawa Director Max McGuire will review the jury notes and give feedback directly to 60-Day Challenge participants in a constructive peer environment that will allow the filmmakers to take the advice, plan their next film and grow in their work.

The Freelance Life

“The Freelance Life” explores the realities of working independently in Canada’s creative industries — the freedom, flexibility, and ongoing hustle required to sustain a meaningful career.

In a city like Ottawa, where the film scene is growing but still developing, freelancers often wear multiple hats to make their mark. This conversation dives into how many streams of income are truly needed to survive and thrive, how creatives pivot during uncertain times, and what it takes to build a career and community in a smaller market.

Speed Mentoring for Underrepresented Creatives

Meet decision makers and leaders in Ottawa’s film and tv industry to ask questions and receive advice on your career and pathway in film and television. RSVP required, lunch is included, limited spots so please reserve early. This is not a pitching event - no pitches allowed.

This mentorship opportunity is reserved for those who have been traditionally underrepresented by the film and tv industry and identify as: BIPOC or racialized, Women+ (including trans and non-binary folks), LGBTQ2SIA+, Persons with Disabilities and Francophones.
