There were TWO STREAMS this year – a DOCUMENTARY stream that had their films screened Friday December 2nd and a SCRIPTED stream that had their films screened Saturday December 3rd. Films were screened at the Centrepointe Studio Theatre.
We also offered a day of workshops – covering things like applying for grants, screenwriting, working with actors, and using the latest camera equipment.
We had two invited filmmakers, who were rquired to use a script written by a screenwriter from The Writer’s Room, an Ottawa based screenwriting group.
So, on Thursday September 22nd at 5:30pm, 48 hours in advance of us releasing the Catch to the filmmakers and the world, 8 of the screenwriters got the Catch in advance. They had 48 hours to come up with an idea and prepare a pitch.
Then, we released the Catch to the public at an event on Saturday September 24th. The two invited filmmakers were there. They received the Catch, then one by one, they were “Pitched” an idea by each of the screenwriters. At the end of the pitches, the two filmmakers conferred and let each other know which pitch they wanted.
All other filmmakers were invited to be there to watch the pitches, and were invited afterwards to try to “woo” the other 6 writers to let them use their ideas … but the other filmmakers were also free to write their own scripts.
Films at the Gala evening are now available through our web-site.
